Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Trailair ("we", "us", "the app") handles your information when you use our mobile application on iOS. We are committed to data minimisation: we collect only what is strictly necessary to deliver the service, and we never sell your data.
1. Who is the data controller
The data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the publisher of Trailair, reachable at hello@trailair.online.
2. Data we collect
2.1 Stored locally on your device
The following data is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It never leaves your phone and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Your watchlist (films you bookmark)
- Reading progress on encyclopedia articles
- Films you mark as already seen
- Quiz high scores
- Language and appearance preferences
Uninstalling the app deletes all of this data permanently.
2.2 Data accessed through third-party services
Trailair displays film metadata, posters and trailers retrieved from The Movie Database (TMDB). Requests sent to TMDB include the search terms you type and the film IDs you open. We do not attach any user identifier to these requests. TMDB's own privacy policy applies to those interactions.
2.3 Data collected for advertising
Trailair displays advertisements via Google AdMob to keep the app free of charge. AdMob may collect:
- Your Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA) only if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission
- Device information (model, OS version, language, approximate location derived from IP)
- Ad interaction events (impressions, clicks)
If you decline tracking when the App Tracking Transparency prompt appears, AdMob will serve non-personalised ads and will not access your IDFA. You can change this choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
For full details, see Google's Privacy Policy.
2.4 Data we explicitly do NOT collect
- No account, no sign-up, no email harvesting
- No precise geolocation
- No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access
- No tracking across other apps or websites by Trailair itself
3. Why we process your data (legal bases under GDPR)
- Provision of the service (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to display films and save your local preferences.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to serve non-personalised ads and prevent abuse.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for personalised advertising via IDFA, only if you opt in.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Data is only shared with the third-party services described above (TMDB, Google AdMob) strictly as needed to display content and ads.
5. Data retention
- Local data: kept until you delete it inside the app or uninstall Trailair.
- Ad-related data on Google's side: governed by Google's own retention schedule.
6. Your rights
Under GDPR and similar regulations (CCPA, UK Data Protection Act, Loi Informatique et Libertés), you have the right to:
- Access, rectify or erase your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g. CNIL in France)
Because most of your data stays on your device, the simplest way to exercise erasure is to use the "Reset" options in Settings inside the app, or to uninstall the app. For any other request, contact us at hello@trailair.online.
7. Children
Trailair is rated 12+ due to occasional film synopsis content that may reference mature themes. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will erase it.
8. International transfers
Google AdMob may process data outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers are covered by Google's Standard Contractual Clauses, the safeguard recognised by the European Commission.
9. Security
Network traffic is encrypted with HTTPS / TLS 1.2+. Local data benefits from iOS file-system encryption when your device is locked. We follow Apple's App Transport Security requirements.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be highlighted within the app.
